K-2 EARLY NUMERACY PROFILE

The K-2 Early Numeracy Profile was co-developed with educators in our district to support responsive, classroom-based assessment grounded in the BC Mathematics Curriculum. At its core is a developmental continuum that outlines how number sense typically grows across Kindergarten to Grade 2—supporting you in noticing, naming, and nurturing early mathematical thinking throughout the year.

The K-2 Early Numeracy Profile includes:

  • A K-2 Developmental Continuum outlining key milestones in number sense development.

  • Engaging Assessment Activities designed to surface thinking through everyday learning.

  • Guidance on collecting and interpreting evidence through observation, conversation, and student work.

  • A focus on formative assessment that enhances—not replaces—your professional judgment.

  • A foundational resource on Co-creating the Conditions for Powerful Math Learning in the Early Years, helping you and your students build a shared foundation for meaningful, thriving numeracy experiences in the classroom.
