EARLY AND MIDDLE DEVELOPMENT INSTRUMENTS
Understanding how children are doing—socially, emotionally, physically, and cognitively—helps schools and communities better support their growth. In Central Okanagan Public Schools, we use two key tools to guide this work: the Early Development Instrument (EDI) and the Middle Development Instrument (MDI). The EDI gathers insights from Kindergarten teachers on early childhood development, while the MDI invites students in Grades 4 to 8 to share their own perspectives on well-being, health, and life at school, home, and in the community. Together, these tools help inform planning, strengthen supports, and foster environments where all children can thrive.
